Baillière's Clinical Gastroenterology (BCG)
Journal Descriptions
Baillière’s Clinical Gastroenterology was a peer-reviewed specialty journal published quarterly from 1987 to 1998. With Print ISSN 0950-3528 and E-ISSN 1878-0873, it focused on digestive system diseases, clinical gastroenterology practice, and applied therapeutic strategies. Its articles comprised expert reviews, clinical overviews, and state-of-the-art syntheses aimed at clinicians managing gastrointestinal disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal oncology, and functional digestive problems. Edited and produced under the Baillière Tindall imprint of Elsevier, the journal served as a bridge between research evidence and clinical application, helping practitioners update diagnostics, treatment options, endoscopic techniques, and multidisciplinary care approaches. During its run, it was indexed in major databases such as MEDLINE and included contributions by leading gastroenterologists internationally. In the late 1990s the title was phased out and continued as part of the Best Practice & Research clinical review series — specifically evolving into Best Practice & Research: Clinical Gastroenterology — which retained the tradition of thematic, evidence-based clinical reviews for busy physicians. Archival issues remain a resource for historical perspectives on evolving gastroenterology care and evidence interpretation.
