Journal Descriptions

The Australian Emergency Nursing Journal was a peer-reviewed professional nursing journal dedicated to the practice, education, research, and development of emergency nursing in Australia. First published in 1996, the journal aimed to support emergency nurses and related health professionals by disseminating clinically relevant and evidence-informed articles. Its quarterly issues included original research, clinical reports, case studies, reviews, practice innovations, and commentary on key issues affecting emergency departments and front-line nursing. Topics covered ranged from triage and acute care interventions to trauma management, emergency department workflow, patient safety, education, professional standards, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Serving as a constructive voice for emergency nurses, the journal provided both scholarly insight and practical guidance for clinicians and educators. The journal was originally issued by the Emergency Nurses’ Association of New South Wales and subsequently by the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA), reflecting its widening scope across the Australasia region. In 2005, it continued publication under a new title (Australasian Emergency Nursing Journal) which later evolved into Australasian Emergency Care. During its active years, the journal contributed substantially to the scholarly foundation and professional identity of emergency nursing in Australia.
