Australasian Journal of Early Childhood (AJEC)
Journal Descriptions
The Australasian Journal of Early Childhood (AJEC) is a respected academic publication in the field of early childhood education and care, published in partnership between Early Childhood Australia (ECA) and SAGE Publishing. As a quarterly, peer‑reviewed journal, AJEC welcomes contributions that advance theory, research and practice in the early years (typically birth to eight years), including original empirical research, conceptual analysis, reviews and discussion pieces. Its scope encompasses diverse disciplinary perspectives — such as education, developmental psychology, health and wellbeing, family and community influences, policy and pedagogy — and it places strong emphasis on research that can inform practice, policy and social outcomes for children and their families. The journal champions ethical research and inclusive dialogue, encouraging contributions from a broad community of scholars internationally. AJEC also foregrounds issues of equity, diversity and culturally responsive research, including Indigenous perspectives. It aims to serve educators, researchers, policymakers and practitioners by providing a forum for rigorous evidence, thoughtful critique and the exchange of ideas to support quality early childhood outcomes across Australasia and globally.
