Australasian Emergency Care (AEC)
Journal Descriptions
Australasian Emergency Care is a quarterly, international peer-reviewed journal established in 2018 (continuing from the earlier Australasian Emergency Nursing Journal) and published by Elsevier Ltd. on behalf of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA). It serves as a leading voice in emergency healthcare research, supporting emergency nurses, paramedics, physicians and allied professionals by publishing clinical, empirical, theoretical and translational research that advances emergency care practice. The journal focuses on evidence-based improvements in patient outcomes and quality of care across the emergency continuum — from prehospital and acute care to post-hospital follow-up. Key subject areas include emergency nursing practice, paramedicine, clinical decision-making, emergency department operational research, triage systems, clinical governance, health policy, education and workforce development. As an officially recognized journal of the CENA, it reflects the inter-professional diversity of the emergency care community and underscores the importance of collaboration and shared decision-making in enhancing patient experiences and outcomes. Indexed in major scholarly databases including MEDLINE/PubMed and Scopus, Australasian Emergency Care publishes original research articles, reviews and practice-relevant studies that contribute to global emergency care knowledge and best practices. Editorial leadership is provided by Professor Ramon Z. Shaban, PhD, alongside senior editors and an international editorial board committed to scientific excellence and relevance for clinicians and academics worldwide.
