Journal Descriptions

ASM Case Reports was launched by the American Society for Microbiology to address an important gap in ASM’s publication portfolio — an open venue specifically for rigorous and timely case reports in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. The journal began publishing in January 2025 and issues are released bimonthly. It focuses on clinical narratives that enhance understanding of rare or emerging infectious diseases, detailed clinical presentations, novel diagnostic approaches, therapeutic responses, and other aspects of infectious disease pathogenesis and management. Articles are open access, meaning they are freely available online to researchers, clinicians, educators, and students worldwide. The editorial mission is to facilitate the dissemination of valuable clinical insights that can influence clinical practice, education, and future research directions. The journal welcomes contributions from around the globe with geographically diverse authorship and encourages reports that describe not only unusual clinical cases but also cases that demonstrate diagnostic challenges and innovative laboratory tools in action. Its publication model supports rapid peer review and online dissemination, enhancing the accessibility and educational value of clinical case literature in microbial health sciences. As part of ASM’s broader journal family, ASM Case Reports complements flagship research and clinical journals by providing a dedicated home for detailed case‑based scientific discourse.
