Journal Descriptions
Zeitschrift für Literatur und Künste der frühmodernen Welt / Journal for Arts and Literature in the Early Modern World / Revue pour les arts et les littératures de la Première Modernité Artes aims to be an interdisciplinary forum for the study of early modernity – from the early European Renaissance to the beginning of the 19th century. As a journal with a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective, our main intention is to stimulate exchange inter artes – e.g. between philologies, philosophy, music, art and visual studies. Our aim is to describe the long period of transformation before modernity as a continuum that laid the foundations for our present through dynamic processes of pluralization and diversity in art and our everyday world. With the title of the journal, we simultaneously recall diversity of the arts before the Age of Art as well as the numerous artistic-technical reflections that shaped aesthetic production and theory formation before the rise of aesthetic theory in the late 18th century.
