Applied Animal Behaviour Science (AABS)
Journal Descriptions
Applied Animal Behaviour Science is a long-running peer-reviewed journal published by Elsevier since 1984, originally under the title Applied Animal Ethology (1974 before renaming). It serves as a premier outlet for research applying ethological principles to animals managed by humans, encompassing practical and scientific studies in behaviour, welfare, training, and management across farm, companion, zoo, and laboratory settings. With a typical frequency of eight issues per year, the journal accepts original research and reviews that advance understanding of how animals interact with environments, conspecifics, and handlers; how behavioural outcomes can inform welfare and productivity; and how behavioural methodologies can be applied across species. The journal’s breadth covers not only traditional livestock and companion animal studies but also behavioural insights with relevance to wildlife management and conservation where applied contexts are central. Applied Animal Behaviour Science is associated with the International Society for Applied Ethology and attracts contributions from behavioural scientists, animal welfare researchers, veterinarians, and related professionals worldwide. Editorial leadership is provided by Irene Camerlink and Péter Pongrácz, supported by a global editorial board. The journal’s print ISSN is 0168-1591 and E-ISSN is 1872-9045 and it continues to influence research on animal behaviour and welfare in the applied sciences.
