Annales Françaises d'Anesthésie et de Réanimation (AFAR)
Journal Descriptions
Annales Françaises d’Anesthésie et de Réanimation was a long-standing French medical journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in anesthesiology, resuscitation and critical care medicine. First published in 1982, the journal served as the official scientific publication of the Société Française d’Anesthésie et de Réanimation (SFAR), offering clinicians and researchers a robust platform for peer-reviewed clinical studies, expert reviews, guideline summaries, and practical insights. Content spanned the broad specialties of perioperative care, pain management, anesthetic techniques, intensive care protocols, and resuscitation strategies, supporting evidence-based practice and everyday clinical decision-making. Articles were mainly in French with summaries in English, fostering both local and international engagement among anesthesiologists, intensivists and allied health professionals. The journal evolved from a bimonthly to a monthly frequency reflecting its growing scholarly contribution. Its archives include seminal discussions on sedation, airway management, pain control, hemodynamic monitoring and critical care. In 2015, the journal was relaunched under the English title Anaesthesia Critical Care & Pain Medicine, continuing its legacy in a broader international context and modern editorial framework. The rich historical corpus of Annales Françaises d’Anesthésie et de Réanimation remains an important reference in perioperative and intensive care literature.
