Annales des Ponts et Chaussées (ADPC)
Journal Descriptions
Annales des Ponts et Chaussées is one of the oldest and most prestigious French engineering periodicals, established in 1831 under the authority of the Corps des Ponts et Chaussées and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées to promote scientific and technical knowledge in civil engineering. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, it published a wide range of articles on structural engineering, construction techniques, materials science, hydraulics, transportation systems, infrastructure planning, urban engineering, and public works administration. The journal documented both theoretical advances and practical innovations, including engineering case studies, technical analyses, experimental results, and summaries of legislative or regulatory developments affecting French infrastructure. After ceasing publication in 1971 due to institutional and financial challenges, it was revived in 1977 with a quarterly issue schedule, continuing its tradition of serving engineers, researchers, and policymakers. Although print issues tapered in the early 2000s, extensive archives from 1831 to the late 20th century are preserved in Gallica (the digital library of the French National Library) and other academic repositories, reflecting a rich historical legacy of France’s civil engineering and infrastructure expertise.
