Journal Descriptions
American Journal of Otology was a peer reviewed medical journal specializing in otology, neurotology, and related areas of otolaryngology. Established in 1979 in the United States, the journal became an important international publication for physicians, surgeons, audiologists, and researchers involved in the diagnosis and treatment of ear and hearing disorders. The journal focused on both clinical and experimental research concerning diseases of the ear, auditory system, vestibular disorders, and skull base pathology. The publication featured original research articles, clinical investigations, review papers, surgical technique reports, and case studies related to hearing loss, cochlear implantation, middle ear surgery, balance disorders, acoustic neuromas, tinnitus, and neurotologic diseases. It also addressed developments in audiology, temporal bone imaging, electrophysiology, and microsurgical procedures involving the auditory and vestibular systems. The journal gained significant recognition within the fields of otology and neurotology and was indexed in major biomedical databases including MEDLINE and Scopus. In 2001, American Journal of Otology merged into and continued under the title Otology & Neurotology, reflecting the expanding integration of neurological and otologic sciences in modern ear and skull base medicine.
