Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy (ASJPE)
Journal Descriptions
Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy is a peer‑reviewed interdisciplinary academic journal dedicated to advancing the study of the political economy of world development, with a particular focus on issues faced by countries and communities in the Global South. The journal addresses global challenges including agrarian crises, labour relations, environmental change, land reform, and socio‑economic transformation. It invites original research that theorizes and empirically investigates how land, labour, gender, race, caste, industrialization, sustainable resource use, and social movements shape and are shaped by political economic processes. The journal encourages scholarship rooted in the intellectual traditions of Third World and Southern thinkers, seeking to decentre dominant Northern paradigms and promote autonomous critical thought for societies in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Contributions often include policy‑relevant analyses, historical perspectives, and critical interpretations that connect local agrarian structures with global economic dynamics. The publication also features book reviews, essays, briefings, and special sections like “Third World Legacies”, while engaging activists and practitioners alongside academics. Its mission is not only to deepen theoretical understanding but also to inform transformative strategies for just and sustainable development.
