African Musicology Online (AMO)
Journal Descriptions
African Musicology Online (AMO) is an international peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the study and advancement of African music and musicology. The journal is published by the Utafiti Foundation / Bureau for the Development of African Musicology (BDAM) in Kenya and provides a platform for scholars, researchers, musicians, and cultural practitioners to share research related to African musical traditions and contemporary musical practices. The journal focuses on promoting scholarly understanding of African music from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It encourages contributions that analyze traditional music, modern African musical expressions, ethnomusicology, music composition, performance practice, and cultural heritage. AMO aims to amplify African perspectives in the global field of musicology and to address misconceptions or oversimplifications about African musical traditions. African Musicology Online publishes original research articles, review papers, conceptual studies, and case studies written by academics and professionals from across Africa and around the world. The journal uses a double-blind peer-review process to ensure academic quality and research integrity. As an open-access journal, it supports the dissemination of knowledge by making research freely available to readers, students, and scholars globally.
