Journal Descriptions

The African Journal of Tropical Hydrobiology and Fisheries (AJTHF) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to publishing research related to aquatic ecosystems, fisheries science, and hydrobiological studies with special emphasis on tropical regions of Africa. The journal was established in 1971 and is managed by the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization (LVFO). It provides an important platform for researchers, fisheries scientists, environmental experts, and policy specialists working in aquatic sciences to disseminate their research findings. The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, short communications, and technical reports that contribute to the understanding and sustainable management of freshwater and marine resources. Its scope covers biological, ecological, technological, and socio-economic aspects of fisheries and aquatic environments. Topics frequently addressed include fish biology, limnology, aquatic ecology, aquaculture development, fish processing technologies, fisheries economics, aquatic biodiversity, and environmental management of lakes and rivers. AJTHF promotes scientific collaboration and knowledge sharing among African researchers and international scientists interested in aquatic resource management. Through the publication of peer-reviewed research, the journal supports sustainable fisheries development and the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, particularly within the Lake Victoria Basin and other tropical aquatic systems.
