Journal Descriptions
The African Journal of Drug & Alcohol Studies is a peer‑reviewed international scientific journal dedicated to research on alcohol, drug, tobacco and other substance use, dependence, and related public health issues, particularly in African contexts and among people of African descent globally. The journal publishes original research articles, evaluation studies, case reports, systematic reviews, and book reviews that meet rigorous scholarly standards. It addresses a broad range of topics including patterns of substance use, epidemiology, prevention, treatment and intervention strategies, policy‑oriented analyses, psychopharmacology, socio‑economic impacts of substance use, and the interaction between drugs/alcohol and other health or social outcomes such as crime, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and public policy. As an interdisciplinary publication, it serves the needs of researchers, clinicians, policy makers, public health professionals, and educators interested in substance use research and practice. The journal fosters evidence‑based understanding of substance use behaviours, harm reduction, cultural and contextual factors influencing drug and alcohol consumption across African settings, and the development of effective strategies for prevention and control of substance‑related problems. It is recognised on academic platforms and indexed in citation databases such as Scopus.
