Journal Descriptions

Advances in Communication and Swallowing is a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research in the fields of communication sciences and swallowing disorders. The journal serves as the official publication of the Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) and provides a platform for clinicians and researchers to share original work that contributes to the evidence base for assessment, management, and understanding of both communication and swallowing difficulties. Its scope includes clinical and theoretical studies on areas such as speech, language, voice, fluency, communication disorders, and dysphagia (swallowing disorders). The journal welcomes quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research, including original research articles, case studies, systematic reviews, and invited commentaries. Submissions are encouraged from professionals across allied disciplines including linguistics, psychology, education, audiology, and medicine, reflecting the journal’s multidisciplinary approach. By disseminating research of international relevance, Advances in Communication and Swallowing aims to improve clinical practice, inform policy, and enhance understanding of communication and swallowing challenges throughout the lifespan. Its research outputs contribute to clinical decision-making, rehabilitation strategies, and interdisciplinary collaboration in speech-language pathology and related healthcare fields.
