Advanced Cement Based Materials (ACBM)
Journal Descriptions
Advanced Cement Based Materials was a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Elsevier from 1993 to 1998, dedicated to the advanced study of cementitious and concrete materials from a materials science perspective. The journal served as an interdisciplinary forum connecting civil engineering, materials science, chemistry, and structural engineering, focusing on innovative research into the microstructure, chemistry, and engineering performance of cement-based composites. Its scope included topics such as hydration mechanisms, microstructural characterization, effects of admixtures and fibers, durability under environmental exposures, modelling of material behaviour, and new test methods. Unlike typical application-oriented construction materials journals, Advanced Cement Based Materials placed strong emphasis on fundamental understanding of how material composition and processing influence performance at micro- and macro-scales. This contributed to advances in high-performance concrete, fiber-reinforced cementitious composites, and sustainable formulations. Although the journal had a limited run and was eventually incorporated into the broader journal Cement and Concrete Research, its published volumes provided influential research that helped bridge the gap between cement chemistry and practical performance outcomes in structural applications. Researchers in concrete materials science often regard its archives as valuable resource material for the historical development of modern cement-based composite research.
