Actuel Marx (AM)

The magazine Actuel Marx, founded in 1986 by Jacques Bidet and Jacques Texier, is now almost 30 years old. The year 2006 was the first to bear witness to a change in its management and editorial board. In September 2005, Emmanuel Renault succeeded Jacques Bidet, director of the magazine since its foundation. In May 2015, Jean-Numa Ducange and Guillaume Sibertin-Blanc took over from Emmanuel Renault, following in the footsteps of their two predecessors and preserving the journal's link with the Sophiapol team at Université Paris Ouest Nanterre. Each issue combines a thematic dossier dealing with theoretical questions or issues more directly relevant to the historical and political conjuncture, with a special dossier of contributions, interviews and reviews reflecting the diversity of international research on Marx, Marxisms and contemporary critical thought. The new management and editorial board also claim intellectual continuity with the journal's past publications, with the aim of renewing issues and making articles easier to understand. Since its foundation, Actuel Marx has sought to contribute to the re-elaboration of a form of thought that articulates the traditions of Marxism with other major currents of contemporary thought. It has gradually built up a scientific community with links to other comparable centers in various cultural areas, notably Anglo-Saxon, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian, Chinese and Japanese. It seeks to take account not only of current forms of reference to Marx, but also of the various debates running through the social sciences and humanities, in the French and Francophone context as well as in the wider international context. Although its main focus is philosophical, it works in the theoretical field of various disciplines: history, economics, history, sociology, political anthropology, arts... It regularly organizes initiatives following on from the "International Marx Congress".
