Acta Pharmacologica et Toxicologica (APT)
Journal Descriptions
Acta Pharmacologica et Toxicologica was a scientific journal dedicated to research in pharmacology and toxicology, originating from the Scandinavian scientific community. It was established in the mid-1940s to provide an international platform for experimental and clinical studies related to drug action, safety, and toxicological evaluation. The journal published original research articles, experimental pharmacology studies, toxicological assessments, and reviews covering mechanisms of drug action, receptor pharmacology, metabolism, and adverse drug reactions. It played an important role in the development of modern pharmacological sciences in Europe, particularly within Nordic countries, where pharmacology research was rapidly expanding during the post-war period. The journal served both academic researchers and clinical pharmacologists, contributing significantly to drug safety science and experimental therapeutics. Over time, its scope broadened to include more clinical pharmacology and translational research. In later years, Acta Pharmacologica et Toxicologica underwent restructuring and renaming, eventually evolving into the modern journal Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology, which continues its scientific legacy today. The journal is historically significant as it helped bridge early experimental pharmacology with modern clinical drug evaluation practices. It is now primarily referenced for archival and bibliographic purposes in pharmacological literature.
