Journal Descriptions

Acta Microbiologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae is a historical peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It focused on microbiological and biomedical research, contributing significantly to the development of microbiology in Central Europe during the 20th century. The journal published original research articles in bacteriology, virology, immunology, and infectious disease studies. It also included experimental studies on microbial physiology, laboratory diagnostics, and host–pathogen interactions. Over time, it became an important platform for Hungarian and international microbiologists to share research findings and collaborate across biomedical disciplines. As scientific publishing evolved, the journal underwent restructuring and was later continued under a modernized title, Acta Microbiologica et Immunologica Hungarica, which reflects a broader focus on microbiology and immunology research. This transition also aligned the journal with international publishing standards and expanded its global reach. Today, the original title remains important in bibliographic and historical contexts, representing a significant period in the development of microbiological sciences within Hungary and Europe.
