Journal Descriptions

Acta Gynaecologica et Obstetrica Hispano-Lusitana was a peer-reviewed medical journal published in Europe focusing on obstetrics and gynecology. It primarily served as a scientific platform for clinicians and researchers from Spain and Portugal, addressing advancements in women’s reproductive health. The journal published original research articles, clinical case reports, reviews, and academic discussions related to pregnancy, childbirth, gynecological disorders, fertility, and endocrine influences on female health. During its publication period (1951–1966), the journal contributed to the development of modern obstetric and gynecological practices in the Iberian medical community. Articles were typically written in Spanish and Portuguese, with summaries in other European languages such as English, French, and German to enhance international accessibility. The journal reflected mid-20th century clinical approaches, focusing on maternal health, surgical techniques, hormonal studies, and reproductive system diseases. It was later succeeded by related Iberian obstetrics–gynecology journals as the publication evolved and regional scientific communication expanded. Today, it is considered a historical medical journal and is indexed in legacy medical databases such as OldMedline and Scopus archives.
