Journal Descriptions

Acta Ethologica is an established international journal dedicated to advancing the scientific study of behavioral biology and ethology. Since its inception in 1998, the journal has provided a platform for high‑quality research papers, short communications, reviews, commentaries, and occasional book reviews that explore behavioural processes in humans and other animals. The journal places particular emphasis on work that integrates proximate mechanisms (such as physiology and development) with ultimate explanations (such as evolutionary function and adaptation), highlighting how behaviour arises and evolves across diverse taxa. Topics of interest include adaptive behavioural plasticity, inter‑individual and geographic variation, mechanisms underlying behaviour, social and reproductive behaviour, and the evolutionary processes that shape behaviour. The multidisciplinary scope draws contributions from zoologists, psychologists, ecologists, and behavioural scientists, making Acta Ethologica a valuable resource for researchers working at the intersection of biology and behavioural science. With rigorous peer review and indexing in major scientific databases such as Science Citation Index Expanded, Scopus, and BIOSIS Previews, the journal supports both foundational and applied research that informs our understanding of animal and human behaviour from evolutionary, ecological, and functional perspectives.
