Journal Descriptions

ACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes (SEN) is an informal, community‑oriented publication of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Software Engineering (SIGSOFT). First issued in 1976, SEN provides a flexible and accessible venue for software engineering professionals, researchers, educators, and practitioners to disseminate informal articles, reports, meeting summaries, tutorials, workshop proceedings, opinions, and announcements that reflect the evolving concerns of the software engineering community. SEN differs from formal academic journals by emphasizing practical experience, community engagement, and topical discussions rather than strict peer‑review research articles, though it remains indexed and archived in the ACM Digital Library for reference and citation. Its content spans the full landscape of software engineering topics, including requirements, architecture and design, software processes and methodologies, software quality and metrics, tools and environments, and emerging issues in practice and education. The newsletter supports SIGSOFT’s mission of strengthening interaction among practitioners, researchers, and educators by providing a platform for sharing workshop proceedings, case studies, emerging ideas, and interdisciplinary insights. SEN appears on a quarterly schedule, offering the SIGSOFT community regular opportunities to stay informed about developments in the field, community news, and opportunities for engagement. SEN also sometimes includes columns on specialized topics and summaries of major SIGSOFT‑sponsored conferences and events.
