ACM SIGHIT Record (SR)

ACM SIGHIT Record was the official biannual newsletter of the Special Interest Group on Health Informatics and Information Technology (SIGHIT) within the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Launched in 2011, it provided a dedicated communication forum for researchers, practitioners, educators, and students working at the intersection of computer science and health/medical informatics. The field of health informatics brings together computing technologies, data analytics, information systems, and clinical practices to improve healthcare delivery, decision support systems, electronic health records (EHRs), public health information systems, and biomedical data management. SIGHIT Record reflected this interdisciplinary scope by publishing reports on research challenges, summaries of SIG workshops and symposia, book and product reviews relevant to health informatics, commentary on emerging HIT trends, and general information of interest to the SIG community. Each issue served both as a record of community activities and as a platform for thought leadership in applying computing innovations to health contexts. Unlike peer-reviewed scholarly journals, the newsletter focused on timely community updates and practice-oriented content that helped bridge research and real-world health IT applications. The biannual frequency allowed SIG members to keep abreast of workshops, conference outcomes (such as the International Health Informatics Symposium, IHI), and evolving discussions on health systems technologies and standards. Although SIGHIT’s charter expired in 2012 and the SIG is no longer active, SIGHIT Record issues from 2011–2012 remain archived in the ACM Digital Library and provide a historical snapshot of the early community formation around health informatics within ACM.
