ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics (SCG)

ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics was a publication produced by the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH), first appearing in 1969 and running through 2011. Initially structured as a quarterly report, it served multiple purposes over its lifespan — from disseminating technical articles on computer graphics, interactive systems, and emerging visualization techniques to publishing the proceedings of the annual SIGGRAPH conference. In its early decades, the magazine was one of the primary print forums where practitioners and researchers shared innovations in areas such as rendering algorithms, geometric modeling, animation, user interaction, and graphics hardware. The publication reflected both technical depth and community engagement. Issues included research surveys, implementation case studies, experimental results, and summaries of prominent graphics events. The SIGGRAPH conference proceedings were often incorporated into Computer Graphics, especially prior to the late 1990s. Its broad audience comprised academics, graphics professionals, artists, and engineers who were shaping the evolution of computer graphics from an emerging discipline into a mature field with applications in entertainment, science, design, and visualization. Although Computer Graphics ceased publication in 2011, its archived issues remain valuable as a historical record of decades of innovation in computer graphics and interactive techniques.
