Journal Descriptions

ACM SIGEVOlution is the quarterly electronic newsletter of the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation (SIGEVO). First published in 2006, the newsletter was established to provide SIGEVO members and the wider evolutionary computation community with up-to-date news, research overviews, and community insights that reflect the evolving landscape of evolutionary computation (EC) — a field that combines principles from evolutionary biology with computational problem-solving. Each issue typically includes a mix of editorial commentary, technical features, and community-centric content. Editorials often introduce key themes, workshop or conference summaries (including the major Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference — GECCO), reports on Humies competitions or dissertation award winners, and announcements of forthcoming events and calls for participation. Additionally, SIGEVOlution invites contributions in categories such as short surveys, position papers, software tool descriptions, event reports, and evolutionary art — fostering both scholarly dialogue and community engagement. The newsletter’s quarterly publication rhythm ensures that major developments in the field are communicated in a timely and accessible format. All issues are freely available online and included in the ACM ecosystem, serving both long-time SIGEVO members and newcomers to the field.
