Études de linguistique appliquée (ELA)
Journal Descriptions
Founded by B. Quemada, our Honorary President, in 1961, ÉLA has a long-standing vocation to publish research, training and information aimed at promoting and developing access to foreign and native language cultures. However, the magazine's editorial policy has evolved considerably over the years: firstly, in its general orientation: it embraces both its history and its changes of perspective; thus, while retaining its original title, which refers to the discipline it once championed, it now displays other anchors, which broaden the horizon, shift the focus and modify the approach to the object of study. It publishes only texts in French, to preserve the international dimension of this language as a vehicle for artistic, scientific and everyday communication, and to assert the right of all language-cultures to exist. in the treatment of the subject matter: we opted for thematization and quarterlyization in 1971, and thus favored the development of collective research; we are now opening up the range of thematic choices, with a view to diversifying our production to satisfy and bolster the expectations of our regular readership (loyal by subscription) and to reach out to an occasional readership (dependent on single-issue distribution), whose problems we cannot ignore once they have been identified.
